Facts About Vytorin

One of every five Americans older than 20 has high levels of cholesterol. That can lead to heart attacks and strokes, the leading cause of death among Americans. With those alarmingly high numbers, it's no question why so many Americans take cholesterol-lowering medication such as Vytorin. But as with any other new medication, there may be hidden side effects.

Has taking Vytorin made you sick? If so, our Vytorin Attorneys can help.

Vytorin is a mix of two drugs, Zocor and Zetia. This combination helps lower bad cholesterol better than Zocor alone. The Zocor blocks the production of cholesterol and the Zetia blocks the intestines from absorbing cholesterol. In a recent study, Vytorin cut bad cholesterol by 59 percent. It's rival Lipitor cut bad cholesterol by 53 percent.

While these results are extraordinary, experts are worried. Vytorin has only half the original dose of Zocor. That means the benefits of the statin-style drug may be lost. Statins are known to lower the risk of blood clots and act as anti-inflammatories.

Vytorin has also caused serious muscle and liver problems.
